Israfil Ashurly is a mountaineer, explorer, owner of Insol company. He was the first Azerbaijani to climb Mount Everest and Kangchenjunga, completing the Seven Summits challenge in 2007. He is also first Azerbaijani to receive Snow Leopard award and Volcanic Seven Summits in 2009 and first undisputed Azerbaijani explorer to walk on the North Pole in 2009.
He graduated from Azerbaijan State Oil Academy’s energy faculty.In 1991, Ashurly set-up “Insol”, a company engaged since 1998, installation and commissioning of telecommunication equipment for mobile and wired communications in Russia.
He was awarded “Edelweiss” order for completing The Seven Summits in 2008. In 2009, he received Tereggi Medal for his contributions to development of mountaineering in Azerbaijan.
In 2000, while on a holiday visit to near Kangchenjunga’s foot, Ashurly became interested in mountaineering. In next seven years, he became ninth person to complete Seven Summits challenge.
In 2003, he reached Lapchi mountain (6,017) with Russian alpinist Vladimir Shatayev. In 2007, Ashurly reached Everest with Sergey Kofanov. In 2011, he reached Kangchenjunga with Russian alpinists Aleksey Bolotov and Nikolay Totmyanin.
